The APC issued a warning as the Assembly received a letter to dissolve the Kano emirates.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning following a letter received by the Kano State House of Assembly, urging the review of the law establishing four additional emirates in Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi by the previous administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The group, Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano (the Kano Electorate), also advocated for the reinstatement of the former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

This call coincides with former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso's remarks hinting at a possible review of Ganduje’s actions on the Kano emirate by the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party in Kano.

However, the APC cautioned against any actions that could disrupt the current emirates arrangement established by Ganduje, expressing concerns about potential disturbances to the peace of the ancient city.

The opposition party advised NNPP Governor Abba Yusuf to exercise caution and not be swayed into actions that could jeopardize the existing peaceful coexistence in the state.

Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano submitted a letter dated February 5, 2024, to the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, urging for the dissolution of the emirates and the reinstatement of the former Emir of Kano.

The group emphasized that consolidating the emirates into a single entity could promote unity and progress for the people of Kano, streamlining governance and fostering a cohesive community.

They acknowledged the authority of the Kano State House of Assembly in emirate management but requested a reconsideration of the decision to remove HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from his throne, believing his reinstatement would enhance unity, peace, and stability in Kano State and its neighboring communities.

Describing Sanusi as a highly respected and influential figure committed to the well-being of the people, the group argued that his removal had caused division and unrest, creating unnecessary tension within the community.
