The former Kano state Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has stressed the importance of community ownership in successful community policing during a Channels Television interview. He envisions a model where communities lead the initiative, with government playing a supportive and coordinating role.

He advocated for a model where the community takes ownership of policing, with the government serving a coordinating role.

Regarding the president's proposal to recruit more police personnel, Shekarau also backed President Tinubu's call for a large-scale recruitment drive to bolster the Nigerian police force.

Furthermore, President Bola Tinubu and governors recently reached an agreement to establish state police.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation revealed this development after an emergency meeting convened by the President in Abuja.

He also explained that discussions will continue to refine the details and modalities for implementing state police, highlighting the consensus on its necessity between the federal and state governments.
